How It All Began
In 2012, Tracey Neale-Ferreira from Wales, UK spent a year volunteering at a school in Kenya. During her time there, she was inspired by the children's enthusiasm for learning and became aware of the challenges many families faced in accessing consistent, full-time education for their children.
While volunteering, she worked with Job Thuo Macharia, a Kenyan who shared her passion for helping children reach their full potential. Together they developed a vision to create a primary school that would provide quality education and opportunities for local children.
Using Tracey's savings and Job's local knowledge and experience, they built three classrooms and opened the School in January 2014 with Linet, their very first pupil.

“Kambirwa is a rural farming community where many families face financial challenges despite working hard to support their children.
Although primary education in Kenya is officially free, there are still costs associated with attending school. For some families, these costs can make it difficult for children to access consistent, full-time education and reach their full potential.
Roko 20 was established to help remove these barriers and provide local children with access to a high-quality education.”
